UPDATE: New Misleading Mailers

April 4, 2013 Posted by Jessica Shofler in Board, News, Scams

Did your nonprofit heed our warning about misleading mailers? Hopefully it didn’t fall prey to the most recent misleading mailers we’ve seen.

The first is titled “Statement of Information Officers List” and warns that failure to file a Statement of Information may cause an entity to become suspended. While the warning may be true, it is certainly not true that an organization must pay $225 to get the Statement of Information filed! Instead, an organization can easily do so itself for the filing fee of $20.

Our clients have also received a mailer warning organizations to post revised California and Federal labor law notices. Always check with your employment counsel or HR representative before succumbing to this type of misleading mailer.

Let us know about any misleading mailers your organization has received.

And remember to help other nonprofits by filing a consumer complaint against these types of companies!
